About Honey Locust, Kimberly Hall's debut poetry collection:

In Honey Locust, Kimberly Hall invites us to meet her “in this thicket” of words and images—their beauty and thorns. The influence of Anne Carson’s Autobiography of Red is evident in her careful observations as she pulls back nature’s “skin” to delve deeper. In dreams, she walks beside the moon or dances a jig until her feet bleed. She fears becoming a field of wind and sunlight, her “flesh as loud / as morning bird song,” then knocks the breath out of us in “Cold Front”—a real cyclone or one in the mind? Structured like a spider’s web, this book seduces then holds us in its fine mesh of symphonic sounds, collage of self-portraits—until we realize we are also looking at nature inside ourselves, our own complex (conflicted) beauty, storms, and thorns.
